Avondale Estates is a quiet charming town located inside the perimeter, just east of the City of Decatur. It’s anchored by a Bavarian style town center where one finds restaurants, a theatre, shops, a distillery, wine shop, and breweries. Avondale Lake is a focal point of the town, complete with a walking path, turtles and ducks. It also has its own members only swimming pool, and a park. Festivals and a 4th of July Parade with a small town feel are among the activities organized by the city.
Midway Woods is one of the best kept secrets in metro Atlanta, located in unincorporated Dekalb County between Decatur and Avondale Estates. With large lots and many trees you could easily forget you were in the city. Many smaller bungalows are giving way to larger in-fill new construction homes. Walk to Dearborn Park, or Decatur’s newly acquired 77 acre Legacys Park, home to the arts and festivals. An active neighborhood association organizes neighborhood events.
