North Decatur

North Decatur encompasses a large collection of neighborhoods with a somewhat more suburban feel the further out you go. In the surrounding area you’ll find homes of varying sizes, including many ranch, split level, traditional two story homes, and larger newer construction homes. Close proximity to two of the area’s largest employers, Emory University and the Center for Disease Control, make this a convenient location for many to live. Homes are typically more affordable, have larger yards, and more square footage than many other nearby in-town neighborhoods. You’ll also likely find a garage and perhaps a basement, which are less common in the older historic neighborhoods. Commercial districts are throughout, so shopping is convenient. There are many neighborhoods and subdivisions with their own community associations such as Oak Grove near the vibrant commercial district at La Vista at Oak Grove Road, and Leafmore-Creek Park Hills with its swim-tennis community. Two outstanding area elementary schools are Oak Grove Elementary and Sagamore Hills Elementary. North Decatur schools are Dekalb County Schools with many feeder elementary schools, Henderson or Druid Hills Middle, and Lakeside or Druid Hills High School.
